Last month, HGTV’s Tarek El Moussa and Selling Sunset‘s Heather Rae Young officially became the owners of a house in Newport Beach, California.
While El Moussa and Young are known to move fast, this purchase wasn’t actually planned. A rep for the couple previously revealed to People they never intended to live in this home. “Tarek originally bought it as a flip but then they decided to make it their new home,” the rep told the outlet, adding that this is their first renovation project together.
Over the last few weeks, the couple has taken to Instagram Stories to share their progress in the new home. Yesterday, Young gave fans an update on the home’s status, but it appeared that she and El Moussa were (playfully) butting heads about prices.
“We’re at our new house for a design meeting and we’re going over prices,” she said into her phone’s camera, panning it to focus on El Moussa. “And honey… are you mad at me?” she asked.
“I’m not mad at you but I do think you have an expensive taste,” El Moussa responded. “Well that’s why I chose you,” she said jokingly, as she zoomed in on her eight-carat engagement ring. The couple’s designer backed Young up and added that the Selling Sunset star has “exquisite taste.”
El Moussa began to break down the prices for fans as Young continued to record him. “She wants to put lights in that are $3,000 each” he said pointing to the kitchen “$90,000” he exclaimed.
Young, determined to set the record straight, flipped her phone’s camera into selfie mode. “OK I did say we could choose other lights, but he loves the lights” she said in defense. El Moussa popped back into the frame and added “I do love the lights, thank you,” as he kissed her on the cheek. The couple’s “argument” appeared to be nothing more than a playful tease.
The home, which is still in the early stages of renovation, features hardwood floors and white walls. There’s also a massive rooftop, which overlooks the Pacific Ocean, which the couple has shown in previous Instagram Stories.
El Moussa and Young currently reside in a rental house also located in Newport Beach, which they purchased back in April. They never intended to get too comfortable there. “This is our in-between house until we build or find the perfect house,” El Moussa told People at the time.
Details have not yet been revealed concerning their renovation timeline and/or when they plan to move into the home, but if we know anything about El Moussa, he has a pretty quick turnaround rate when it comes to flipping homes. Congrats you two!
